It is situated in Ifakara Town , which is the administrative centre of the Kilombero District, Morogoro Region , Tanzania . Ifakara lies in Kilombero river plain, 320 km south west of Dar es Salaam , at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The district can be reached by road from Mikumi on the Dar es Salaam-Mbeya trunk road. It can also be reached by train (it is one of the main stations along the Tanzania-Zambia Railway line) and a small airstrip outside the town permits access by light aircrafts throughout the year. IHRDC is located adjacent to Saint Francis Designated District Hospital (SFDDH) a 371 beds hospital and to a Clinical Officers' Training Centre, sharing many collaborative arrangements
