The Ifakara Demographic Surveillance
site is located in southern Tanzania in parts
of two districts, Kilombero and Ulanga both
in Morogoro region (latitude 8? 00? to 8? 35?S,
longitude 35? 58? to 36? 48?E). It covers a
rural population of about 72,000 people in 16,000
households. The site was incepted in September
1996. Baseline census was conducted between
September and December 1996. Since then every
household is visited every 4 months and data
recorded on pregnancy, births, deaths, in and
out migrations.
