BIOMEDICAL DEPARTMENT

Goal
The goal of the unit is to participate in the development, test and apply current biomedical tools to understand the epidemiology of endemic diseases and to evaluate their potential in monitoring control programmes and intervention studies. There are three units that constitutes the departmtnt and these are: Molecular Epidemiology Unit, Diagnostic Immunology unit and Diagnostic parasitological unit.

Objectives

To develop and evaluate new tools for diagnosis, monitoring of communicable diseases
To provide support to various projects carried out by the Centre.
To offer training opportunities (MSc, PhD and professional attachments
for laboratory staff) in some field and laboratory techniques.
To provide technical support to health laboratories in the district.
To offer consultancy in the areas of health impact assessment, quality assurance and good laboratory practice.
